Pieter Lessing is a painter and sculpturer, who’s fame is widely established in his homeland South Africa. But also in Europe and America the appreciation for his work is spreading rapidly. Pieters one-off paintings, sell at very high prices in exclusive galleries in many countries. Some years ago Pieter has set-up a community-project in Bloemfontein (SA) where he teaches young unemployed people from the townships to become craftman-artist. They get employment, school, work training, decent payment... In short they get the opportunity to earn a living for themselves and their family. Pieter makes beautiful designs using paint, sand, metal, , gold, fabrics and all other kinds of material. His pupils recreate these in very small quantities (25-50 pcs). All this is done under supervision and with help of the Dutch Ministery of Economics, which is supporting creative projects like this in their ambition to establish business relations with so-called developed countries. This is one side of the story. The other side is that these designs have proven to be a downright success in Europe. Because so many materials are used in each painting, they have a beautiful deep and rich relief. No two are alike. The beauty is that they carry most of all Pieter Lessing’s imprint, as well as an individual handprint of the craftman who made that specific painting. In Holland and Belgium the first stock was sold out within a month with an urgent demand for more. And for more designs. Price range from € 50,00 to € 210,00 per painting.
