PERUVIAN MASK COLLECTION
PRODUCT PROFILE
STYLING : This collection is inspired in one of the ancient Peruvian Art forms: the funerary mask (please read story card literature). The artworks are neither replicas or copies, but a rendition of the funerary mask with a contemporary insight.
The products are assigned to different cultures which developed in actual Peru territory along its history, appealing to their specific characteristics of style, texture and a less restrained use of color.
MATERIAL EMPLOYED : Option 1: Paste composition: mashed paper (paper mache), cement, chalk, gypsum, vinyl-based adhesive. This material has a ceramic-type touch.
Option 2: Paper mache: mashed paper, chalk and vinyl-based adhesive. This material is lighter in weight, less fragile, and has a wood-type touch.
Accessories are made of stone, bone, wild straw, reed, raw wool and cotton, resin, jute and cotton fabrics. Yarns and fabrics are manufactured and processed by hand.
Finish: Water based paints and varnish. Water based patinas, wax.
PRODUCTION PROCESS: The product is hand cast and dried out with no use of kilns or any form of energy waste, only by direct sun exposition.
All the accessories and parts are made by hand, using traditional weaving and knotting techniques, which involve considerable hand work and consequently helping to create working positions among poorly educated people. The basic unit of our staff is a typical Peruvian artisan family who works independently.
Raw materials like straw, bone, fabric, wool and reed, are cleaned up and disinfected, in order to prevent fungus propagat
