Ajowan Oil is prepared using the steam distillation from Ajwain, a weed that is cultivated in black soil particularly along the riverbank throughout India. It is also known as Bishop's weed and is extensively used in the making of Unani medicines. The seed has a better-sweet taste and is very good for digestion and is also used in food preparation. It is one of the popular spices of Inida and used at home almost everyday.

The Ajowan oil is colourless to brownish liquid with characteristic odour. It is soluble in alcohol and oils and insoluble in water. It has anti-microbial, antispasmodic, antiseptic, carminative, stimulant, germicide and tonic properties.
