Please find below the brief on the Indian Certification Bodies and their scope of work:-

1) Wireless & Planning Commission(WPC): They controls the Wireless/ RFID approval in India.They do not have their own standards and consider the FCC/ European Standards.The approval is must for any wireless equipment.

2) Standardization, Testing and Quality Certification (STQC): It is a Govt organisation and have their mark "S". They are preferred for only those items which are not mandatory in India.They can issue certificates for both Safety & EMC.They can issue certificate based on the CB test .They also conduct factory testing.But as compared to BIS they are faster and economical also.

3) Bureau of Indian Standards(BIS): It is National Body for the standards. They have their own mark "ISI".They are preferred only for those items which are mandatory in India as they are costlier and their lead time is high.They consider CB report of only MCB.For rest of the items they depend on their own testing. They also conduct the factory testing.
4) Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC):They control the Telecommunication Approvals. They have their own standards for some items and for rest depend upon the FCC/ European Standards.

5) Bureau of Energy Efficiency(BEE): A statutory body under the Ministry of Power controls the Energy efficiency scheme of Star Ratings on the Electrical products.

6) Petroleum Explosives Safety Organization (PESO):It regulates and monitor the Manufacture, Import, Export, Transport, Possession, Sale and use of products deployed in Explosives, Petroleum, Compressed Gases and Hazardous areas.
