MarceciArt Introduces Palm Sepals: “ A beautiful and different product, from Ecuador to the world ” We would like to respectfully introduce you our new product “ PALM SEPAL ” or SEPALO DE PALMA. Palma Iriartea - Sépalo de Palma is a local palm, native of Ecuador’s native forests. It grows in warm and humid weather, in heights fluctuating up to 1.800 meters above sea level. Sépalo de Palma takes around 30 years for its first flowering. It takes between 40 or 50 years to reach 50 meters high and 30-40 cm of diameter and expose its roots. For reproduction, Palma Iriartea - Sépalo de Palma needs its seeds, which are covered by a very thick wood, to pass through birds’ digestive system. Since the forest has been devastated over the last few years, this process is becoming more and more rare. Almost a 3% of the tropical jungle is lost per year. Palm Iriartea is not protected specie in Ecuador and there are no greenhouses for new plants. This project becomes even more important since we are using bracteas (sépalos). These bracteas are disposed by the tree, in a clear way to confirm that it is a living specie. These bracteas can only be collected once the tree flowers, which happens after 30 years, once a year. With this conservation, maintenance and development project, Palma Iriartea- Sépalo de Palma, improves its continuity. It will allow us to have guaranteed product that can be later used in alternative art, decorative arts, flower arrangements and more. We will be pleased to clarify any doubt you might have.
